Arlen Ness, the "Godfather" of custom motorcycles started his career by painting his and his friend's bikes in the late 60's. As his paint designs became wilder, he started creating custom bikes to showcase his paint schemes and it evolved from there. As the popularity of "Choppers" and custom bikes increase in the early 70's, Arlen Ness became the standard by which all custom bikes and builders are judged.
